What do we believe?

We have no formal written creed as our guideline for teaching. VHCC does not receive direction or decisions from any outside ruling body. We are not associated with any "denomination." The best summary of what we believe and seek to practice at VHCC is our stand on God's word, the Bible. We believe the whole Bible to be true and without error as it was originally written. It makes this claim for itself (II Timothy 3:16-17) because it was inspired by God, not just the writing of man. We also believe its truth to be timeless and relevant to every person today. Accepting the whole Bible as God's word to man, we accept its clear teaching on several subjects:

-We call ourselves Christians, adding no other name of human origin. Acts 11:26; 26:28; I Corinthians 1:10-12; I Peter 4:16; Revelation 22:18-19

-We believe that all people have sinned and all are equally in need of God's forgiveness through Jesus in order to live forever. The Bible teaches that a person can be saved only by God's grace, through faith, and not by being "good enough." Romans 3:23; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-10

-We accept baptism into Christ (being immersed in water) as the occasion when a person enters into being saved. The Scriptures show that this is the proper response to belief in Jesus.
Baptism is always accompanied by the personal faith of the person being baptized. Acts 2:38; 8:35-40; Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:27; I Corinthians 12:13; Hebrews 11:6

-We accept Christ's commission to go and make Christ followers of all nations as our commission and the primary work of the Church in the world. Matthew 28:18-20; Colossians 1:28

God has given us in the Bible "everything we need for life and godliness." (II Peter 1:3) We encourage every person to study and understand it for him or herself.
