What can I expect at VHCC?

You can expect a warm welcome among a family of people who are glad you are there.  We consider anyone who comes to "check us out" a very important guest.

Music
Music is an appropriate and a biblical element of worship, often seen in Scripture as a response to God's love, mercy, protection, and provision. At VHCC, we seek to involve our family members in musical worship through congregational singing, children's choir, instrumental and vocal ensembles, and individual musicians giving their gifts to glorify God and to edify the Church. While much planning and effort goes into every Sunday's worship music, it is not intended to entertain, but to help provide a vehicle of praise to God.

Lord's Supper
We remember Jesus in a special way through the Lord's Supper every Sunday. This simple memorial was established by Jesus and practiced by the early Church from its very beginning. It is the central reason we gather each week.

Offering
Yes, we take up an offering each week! It is a way to encourage our members to regularly practice giving for the Lord's work on earth. It meets the very practical need of covering the expenses of the church, but it is much bigger than that.  VHCC also gives a portion of its annual budget to support 16 different mission and ministry works worldwide. Contributing to the offering means you are also participating in caring for orphans in Haiti and Africa, providing rescue and shelter for victims of human trafficking in central Asia, hope and encouragement for people in prison, helping to provide for preaching in India, and providing media for countless people to hear the good news about Jesus, just to name a few.

Preaching
Hearing from God's word is another important part of our times of worship together. We believe God has given us a true, reliable, relevant-to-life Bible, and our minister seeks to present it in a way that is both interesting and practical. A chance to respond is usually given at the end of the message. You can listen to some of these messages on
our events calendar by clicking on each Sunday's title.

Study
We have Home Bible Fellowships at several homes in the Joplin area at 6:00 p.m. each Sunday. There is also a Hispanic worship service at 5:00 p.m.
Wednesdays provide other opportunities for worship and growth every week. Youth groups meet at 7 pm, and adult studies or prayer group meetings meet during this time as well.  Children have children's choir practice at this time.  Thursday nights and Tuesday mornings there is a Bible study for ladies at the church building.  Also, men and boys get together for morning prayer breakfasts each month on a Saturday morning.

Fellowship
You'll also find many opportunities to develop encouraging and meaningful relationships. We understand that the Lord's Church is a "family," as the Bible calls it, and just like family we believe it's important to know one another and spend time with each other both in and outside of the "church setting."

Service
Jesus came as a servant and has called us to serve as well. Too many people see Christians as self-serving and self-absorbed.  We want to change this misconception.  VHCC is always serving and always looking for new ways to serve that will help meet needs in our community. The Bible teaches that God has prepared good works in advance for us to do. We encourage every person to become an active servant in whatever way the Lord enables you.
